oVERcONSUMPTION

Overconsumption occurs when our use of natural resources outweighs the sustainable capacity of ecosystems. (1)

What are the consequences?

A prolonged period of overconsumption leads to:

1. The destruction of ecosystems and eventually, the loss of natural resources.
2. An increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Detrimental impacts on health: overconsumption is fuelling the obesity crisis. (1)

Earth Overshoot Day (2)

This day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. In 2020, Earth Overshoot Day landed on 22nd August. If we continue down this path, we will eventually deplete Earth’s natural resources, accumulate more and more waste and further pollute the Earth.

Rethink your spending habits! (3)
